Stories Of Change

Underserved Children who are deprived or are from single parents or have been abandoned or disowned by their family members / grandparents etc are provided accommodation, food, education & a family atmosphere for their upbringing & wellness at the Foundation. The children are enrolled in the South Calcutta Public School which follow CBSE Curriculum with English Medium. Few of the children are also admitted in other local schools.

Apart from food, shelter & education, children are also provided training in sports, arts & crafts & other extracurricular activities like singing, dancing etc. Few of our students have excelled at District & National level competitions for athletics like Short Put, Running, Long Jump etc.

Caring for the Needy and Deprived Children

  • Nikunja Halder stood first and broke the last 28 years’ record, scoring 6.57 meters in Long Jump at 37th Annual Athletic Meet 2022-2023 competition held by South 24 Parganas District Sports Association at Sagar Sangha Ground (District Stadium). In October 2024, Nikunja achieved 1st position in Long Jump, 1st position in Triple Jump and 2nd position in 100 meters race at 68th District School Athletics Meet 2024 for Secondary & Higher Secondary levels organized by The District Council for School Games & Sports, South 24 Parganas. Nikunja also secured 1st position in Triple Jump and 3rd position in Long Jump at 68th State School Games in Athletics in October 2024.
  • At National Level, Nikunja participated in 67th National School Games 2023-24 in December,2023 & 19th National Youth Athletics Championship in June 2024. He also took part in 34th East Zone Junior Athletics Championship,2023. At present, Nikunja is preparing for the 68th National School Games in Athletics to be held in Ranchi, Jharkhand from 5th – 8th January 2025.
  • Three children of our Home Ananda Bhavan got selected to show their talent in a sports event at East Bengal Club on March 2022.
  • Deep Majumder secured 2nd position in Long Jump in 2022 & 2024 in South 24 Parganas District Annual Sports Event held at Baruipur. He also came 2nd in Long Jump, 3rd in Triple Jump & 3rd in Discuss Throw in School SubDivision Sports in 2024.
  • Babu Shona qualified & participated in National Inter District Athletics meet in 2023 in Javelin throw. He secured 1st Position in Javelin in District Sports meet in 2023 & 2024.
  • Sudip Dey came 2nd in 100 meters, & 1st in Javelin in 2023 District Sports meet. He also secured 3rd position in 4x400 meters & 2nd in 4x100 meters relay race at State Sports meet. In 2024 District meet, he secured 1st position in 100 meters & 2nd position in Javelin.

Malati Sarkar

Came to TBEF in 2013.
Background – Malati’s father is not there, she was rescued by a person when he accosted her mentally challenged mother who was on the verge of throwing her into a lake when she was only a month old. Her mother could not be traced thereafter. The person who rescued her kept her with his family for sometime before he came to TBEF & handed her to us.

Present Status (As of 2024) – Malati is studying in Class 8 now in English medium school. Apart from studies, she is very good in singing & athletics. She also has a very nice & artistic handwriting. She is growing up to be a matured & responsible person.

Sanjay Sen

Came to TBEF in 2012.
Background – Sanjay lost his father in 2008 due to severe Heart attack. Post his father’s death, his mother became unwell and got afflicted with Terminal Cancer. Hearing this , his grandparents took his mother back to their native place, leaving Sanjay & his brother with some villagers at Canning. Hearing about them from the Panchayat Pradhan, TBEF decided to admit Sanjay after required document checks.

Present Status (As of 2024) – Sanjay has grown up to be an excellent human being. At present, he is studying in Class 12 in Commerce stream. He is very talented in Sports namely 100 mtrs race & Javelin throw. He dreams of being a Chartered Accountant in the future.

Manisha Das

Came to TBEF in 2012.
Background – Manisha is the youngest of 4 sisters. Coming from a very economically challenged family, Manisha lost her father early in life. Her mother travelled long distances by local train to work at people’s homes to support the family.

Present Status (As of 2024) – Manisha is very good at studies. She secured 81.4% marks in Madhyamik Exams (Class 10 Board Exam). At present, Manisha is studying in Class 12 in Science stream. In June 2022 Manisha stood first in Vidyasagar Science Olympiad – 2022, from Sonarpur under South 24 Parganas.

Shahiba Shaikh

Came to TBEF in 2012.
Background – Coming from a very poor family , Shahiba is the youngest of 3 siblings. Shahiba’s father passed away early in her life. Her mother worked as a farmer to raise her children.

Present Status (As of 2024) – Shahiba studies in Class 12 with Commerce. She is extremely good at sports & extra curricular activities like Elocution, Athletics & Drawing. Shahiba got selected to show her talent in a sports event at East Bengal Club on March 2022.

Shilpa Saha

Came to TBEF in 2018.
Background – Daughter of a Mason, Shilpa is the eldest of 3 siblings. Her mother found it difficult to support the family after Shilpa lost her father in a tragic accident.

Present Status (As of 2024) – Shilpa studies in Class 4 in English Medium School. She is growing up to be a very matured & responsible young lady. Apart from being good at studies, Shilpa is an excellent dancer. Her confident & stage free dance performances and a treat for the eyes. Shilpa is also good at arts & singing.

Niloy Dastidar

Came to TBEF in 2012.
Background – Niloy has been with The Biswas Educational Foundation since 2012. He lost his father very early in life. His mother worked in the agriculture sector and found it quite challenging to make both ends meet. Niloy is the youngest of 3 siblings.

Present Status (As of 2024) – Niloy is very good at Studies as well as Athletics, having won several accolades in District, State & National level competitions. He scored 77.7% in Madhyamik ( Class 10 Board) exams. A Class 12 Commerce student as in 2024, he aspires to be a CA/CFA in future.
